Approaches to sustainable agrotourism in Sesquile, Cundinamarca (Vereda el Uval)

Abstract

The rural sector is currently experiencing a situation not very favorable for its inhabitants, since 60% of rural employment is informal, which makes the inhabitants of the sector take the decision to migrate to the cities in search of better opportunities. The decrease in the rural population in the last decade went from 7 million to 5 million, which generates a decrease in the labor force, considerably reducing productivity and taking into account that 70% of the food produced in the country comes from small producers. On the other hand, the increase in Colombian tourism activities generates a high range of opportunities for this sector. This is why an alternative of sustainable development is proposed for the rural sector, in this case the Agrotourism, based on the everyday life of the rural inhabitant, its culture, customs and traditions, in order to provide new experiences for visitors. The El Uval Sector of the municipality of Sesquilé Cundinamarca is taken for the development of this topic, considering itself as a territory with the favorable characteristics around agriculture and livestock, which wish to share, which also has associations focused on the growth and conservation of the territory and support for small producers. This allows to generate agrotouristic plans in the Finca El Pino that has different production lines and is part of the Adaptation to Climate Change in the High Mountain project, so that their owners can provide care and conservation of the environment, hand in hand of the Association of Women of Sesquilé Amuses.
