Abstract

Colombia is the country with the second largest volume of flower exports, after the Netherlands; Ecuador is in third place, followed by Kenya. In order for the country to maintain its position in the flower market, it is necessary for the companies in the sector to increase their productivity and competitiveness. Therefore, the objective of this project was to measure the effectiveness of the operations that make up the post-harvest process of export-type roses in a company located in Cundinamarca and thus provide an initial diagnosis that can serve as input for the development of an improvement plan. The indicator used in this measurement was the OEE, since it is widely recognized at the industrial level. The measurement showed that the rose postharvest process is at an unacceptable level of efficiency, due to excessive downtime in the dynamics of operations. In conclusion, it can be said that it is necessary to implement an improvement plan to reduce downtime, improve the quality of the process and, therefore, increase the company’s level of efficiency.
