Social impacts of mining in Colombia in the last years

Abstract

This article aims to identify the social impacts generated by mining in Colombia over recent years. Documentary research was carried out, using various sources of information, which allowed the structuring, analyzing and presentation of a panorama of these problems. Indicators issued by the DANE (National Administrative Department of Statistics) are used, which allow the level of social development to be determined in three departments with economies based primarily on extractive activities, and they are compared with the results at the National level. The main conclusion is that in Colombia the arrival of mining companies in certain regions is not reflected in optimal living conditions for its inhabitants.
