Abstract

This research report presents the experience of Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios (UNIMINUTO, the head office and the headquarter of Cundinamarca) on designing and implementing a meteorological measurement network. Initially, the meteorological stations were installed in urban environments (some headquarters of the university) and open spaces (farms of the university) in order to monitor variables that allow to know and understand the atmosphere behavior at high temporal resolutions. This article highlights the participation of some Colombian universities in the creation of environmental monitoring networks that contribute to the risk management associated with extreme weather events, as well as to the local and regional meteorological research and the academic and scientific dissemination. It is also analyzed social, academic and investigative impacts generated by the creation of automatic meteorological measurement networks. Furthermore, it is studied how these individual efforts facilitate and contribute to strength agreements with government institutions for environmental management purposes. At the end of this report, it can be found UNIMINUTO’s own experience formulating projects and researches to facilitate students and teachers’ learning process and contribute to strength the institutional research using high-quality and high temporal resolution climatological data.
